[Surgical decompression and postoperative local action on the small intestine in the combined treatment of intestinal obstruction and peritonitis].

The results of using the operative methods of decompression of the gastro-intestinal tract in 151 patients with longstanding ileus and peritonitis are discussed. Methods of continuous decompression giving local effect upon the intestinal wall in the postoperative period should be used in the critical patients. The results of studying certain biochemical aspects of lavage of the small intestine are described.
