Microscopically controlled excision (Mohs surgery) is a time-proven method of removing skin cancers, especially those with a high rate of recurrence after treatment by standard surgical or radiation techniques. Under the microscope, all lateral and deep margins are checked by sequential horizontal frozen sections. Tumor roots can be extirpated selectively, affording the highest cure rate possible with maximal preservation of normal skin.
