Ultrasonography of the bladder was undertaken in 46 children suffering from cystic fibrosis (CF) and 45 controls. In the groups over 3 years of age, there was a statistically significant difference in the size of the gallbladders. Micro-gallbladders and macro-gallbladders were more common in children with CF. There was good correlation between the findings on cholecystography, intravenous cholangiography and ultrasonography when all three investigations were performed. There was no relationship between abnormal gallbladders and abdominal pain, steatorrhoea or the enzyme replacement dose required in the children with CF.
