The authors performed a quantitative assessment of pain in 890 patients with discogenic lumbosacral radiculitis using the method of electroepidermometric isoalgography (a graphic image of the "pain picture") based on measuring the epidermal electric resistance. The pain intensity and the shape of the "pain picture" were determined. It was found that the intensity of the inflicted pain was directly proportional to the lowering of the electric epidermal resistance within the zone of the pain infliction, while the shape of the pain picture in the direct anatomic projection repeated the shape of the organ that was the source of the pain.
