The retrospective study of ovarian abscesses alerted us to the possibility of a descending salpingitis. The salpingitis arises from the pelvic periteneum following perforation of abscesses. Usually the fimbriated end remains open despite the inflammation. The pelvic peritonitis starts with ovarian abscesses, periappendiceal abscesses or complications of inflammatory intestinal diseases.
