It is demonstrated by 3 examples--the relaxation reflex of the internal sphincter, the aganglionic segment in Hirschsprung's disease and intestinal neuronal dysplasia--that a clinical, manometric or roentgenological condition of the intestine can often only be explained in correlation with histochemical or pharmacodynamic results. Some other manometrically detectable parameters such as propulsion or the adaption reaction should be studied in the future.
