The authors investigated the serum and secretions of 53 patients who underwent surgery for endonasal polyposis. They were distributed in allergic and nonallergic groups, according to their etiopathogenesis. Immunoglobulin concentrations obtained in these groups were compared to our reference standard values (control group). Patients with chronic hyperplastic rhinosinusitis showed a statistically significant increase in concentrations of immunoglobulin A in their saliva and immunoglobulin G and A in their nasal secretion. The authors failed to detect immunoglobulins in the saliva and nasal secretion of patients with endonasal polyposis owing to mucoviscidosis. There was no correlation between the immunoglobulin concentrations in the serum, saliva and nasal secretion of the above patients and controls, but a negative correlation between immunoglobulin M levels in the serum and nasal secretion.
