The possible damage of the cartilaginous surface of the knee which may be caused during arthroscopy by the insertion of the trocar into the knee-joint is described. The mechanism of internal cartilaginous surface damage is photographically recorded using an additional documentation-arthroscope. If the intraarticular pressure of the knee-joint is increased before insertion of the arthroscope, damage to the inside of the knee-joint can be essentially reduced.
