Acta Psychiatr Belg. 1982 Mar-Apr;82(2):195-215.
Without reducing psychopathological phenomena to a sole dimension, the author explores the fruitfulness of relational hypothesis. With reference, namely to Bateson, Bourdieu, Lewin, Pankow, he defines operational concepts which put into connection human communication, sociological context and genesis of personality. Founding upon thorough case studies, the authors proposes a relational model which delineates the pathological behavior. This model emphasizes the relational rules which define the value and the signification of behaviors, the social position of individuals and their identity. Therefrom, the author describes the characteristics any relational therapeutic environment has to own. He considers as essential the patients reinsertion into meaningfull exchange circuits, in order to restore the sense and the value of what patient is and what he does.
