Abstract

In the musculus masseter of the man, dog, rabbit and rat (5 specimens for each) optic density of diformasan deposition [after succinatedehydrogenase (SDG) activity has been revealed], transversal section areas of myons, number of capillaries around them and thickness of the Z-line have been studied. In each muscle subjected to the investigation parameters for 150 myons randomly chosen have been defined. According to SDG activity, muscle fibres of three types have been visibly selected: red, white and intermediate. According to all signs investigated, the muscle tissue is a single complex without a sharp division into various fibre types.
