Vaginal hysterectomy without evacuation was performed in 50 patients for abortion and subsequent sterilization. The operation was not associated with an increased blood loss. The operation is of advantage for interruption of pregnancy up to the 12th week in three conditions: 1) presence of pathology of the uterus, 2) if severe, chronic and progressive disease requires sterilization, 3) older multiparous who desire sterilization.--We believe that the operation should not be used as routine procedure for abortion with subsequent sterilization. A two step procedure is preferable with a delay of 12 weeks after abortion.
