Layering of calcifications in synovial effusions.

The layering out of calcific particles within synovial effusions was detected with horizontal beam radiography in the shoulder of one patient and in the knee of another. This finding has been illustrated only once previously. We suspect that it may be a feature of hydroxyapatite deposition disease, but this remains to be proven.
