Carotid body tumors of rare occurrence in the cervical region. Through microsurgical operative techniques the risk of hemorrhages and lesions of the carotid artery as well as accompanying dangers for the brain have been reduced. Special problems of microsurgical extirpation including preparation by means of a bipolar coagulation forceps are cleared up.
