Pseudo-obstruction of the colon is a potentially fatal condition that has not been previously described in orthopedic patients. The onset of the condition is deceptively benign. The early appearance of pseudo-obstruction is so easily overlooked that two cases are reported to heighten an awareness of this condition and to emphasize the necessity for prompt initiation of treatment.
