Abstract
The Commission of the European Communities has been carrying out scientific investigations on asbestos for some years. The principal activity has been the regular meetings of two European Communities panels of scientific consultants concerned primarily with the pathology of the asbestos-related diseases, asbestosis and mesothelioma. In addition, the Commission has carried out a number of comparative studies on the measurement of asbestos in various media, using both gravimetric and microscopic techniques.
