M. tuberculosis infection of a total hip prosthesis was observed in two patients. Clinical and bacteriological diagnostic features are described, as well as the two possible physiopathological mechanisms involved: activation of a chronic local lesion or blood dissemination. Combined medical and surgical treatment results in effective clinical and functional recovery.
