Coma in children is an overwhelming process. The article discusses the probable etiological factors that may lead to coma condition, the physical examination, laboratory diagnosis and therapeutic management of the unconscious patient. Emphasis is being given to the emergency treatment of associated cardiac arrest and reference to the medicolegal problem arising from the prolonged use and discontinuance of mechanical life-supporting devices.
