Abstract
The causative possibilities of chronic obstipation and faecal incontinence in the elderly are discussed, furthermore the facilities of treatment and care by retraining for continence. Training does require the intelligent co-operation of the patient and an unfailing regularity of attention and patience from the nursing staff.
