Under observation were 236 children with extrahepatic blockade of portal circulation. The authors arrived at a conclusion that this disease in children was mainly due to a congenital anomaly of the development of portal veins. Omphalitis and umbilical sepsis in these patients were in a considerable degree due to pathologic conditions of healing the umbilical wound. They should be considered as a result of extrahepatic blockade of the portal blood circulation.
