Combined electrophysiology and ultrastructure of acoustic trauma in the guinea pig cochlea.

Acoustic trauma was studied in experimental guinea pigs by combining gross auditory nerve recordings with single neurone (spiral ganglion) techniques and scanning electron-microscopy. Structural and functional changes caused by loud pure tones were assessed immediately after exposure and after varying recovery periods.
