Femur fractures near the knee joint provide serious problems where therapy is concerned. In elderly patients, especially those who also have other illnesses, who must be mobilized very early, the use of an exceptionally long nail as described by Küntscher offers an alternative method to the AO angleplate.
Short time of operation, early mobilization, sufficient mobility after removal of the nail.
