In acute experiments on 70 dogs at the late stage of the organism response to acute massive blood loss hemotransfusions, infusion of decalcinated gelatinol, or of a 0.9% solution of sodium chloride were incapable of preventing death of the animals. Intravenous infusions of a 10% calcium chloride solution following such therapy promoted survival of most of the animals.
