Abstract

Lipomas, generally described as thinly encapsulated, soft, multilobular masses of adipose tissue, can occur in any location but are more common in areas in which there is an abundance of fatty tissue. In the foot, they are most commonly found in the area just anterior to the lateral malleolus and are less common more distally in the foot. Dr. Greenberg describes the surgical excision of a lipoma in a female patient whose fifth toe was greatly enlarged. There were no postoperative complications and healing was uneventful.
