Using computerized tomography of the brain the authors diagnosed hemorrhages to the thalamus in 8 patients out of 74 with hemispheral hemorrhages. Peculiarities of the restoration of the disturbed functions in this group of the patients are analyzed. A dissociation between the marked restoration of elementary motor functions and a poorer restoration of motor habits was revealed. This dissociation was due to a considerable degree to the presence of a pronounced asthenodepressive syndrome in these patients. The clinical syndrome characteristic of hemorrhage to the thalamus is described.
