The existence of functional disturbances in chronic simple glaucoma is generally considered to be an indispensable prerequisite in deciding to perform a glaucoma operation. The favorable results obtained with the covered sclerectomies and their small percentage of postoperative complications have encouraged the authors to prefer operative treatment over conservative magangement more often in chronic simple glaucoma. The decision between operative and conservative management does not however depend solely on the existence of visual field defects. It also depends on the social status of the patient, poor drug tolerance and other factors as well.
慢性单纯性青光眼功能障碍的存在通常被认为是决定是否进行青光眼手术的一个不可或缺的先决条件。覆盖式巩膜切除术取得的良好效果及其较低的术后并发症发生率，促使作者们在慢性单纯性青光眼中更倾向于采用手术治疗而非保守治疗。然而，手术治疗与保守治疗之间的抉择并非仅仅取决于视野缺损的存在。它还取决于患者的社会地位、对药物耐受性差等其他因素。
