Intravenous arteriography is a useful method which should be considered for those patients in whom arterial catheterization is a risk. The technique permits visualization of the entire aorta and its major branches. While inferior to conventional arteriography, the diagnostic information provided by intravenous arteriography is adequate for most patients with aortic aneurysm or major stenotic lesions. Detail can be improved by using subtraction techniques. Images comparable to those produced by digital angiography can be obtained at relatively low cost.
