Abstract

This paper reviews the use of cast bracing in fractures of the femoral shaft in children between 1977 at the Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital. Thirteen children have been treated by cast bracing. All children have achieved a full functional recovery. The average time to cast bracing was 3 weeks, and the average time to discharge was 4 weeks. Thus treated, these children were discharged 4 weeks earlier than those treated by conventional measures. It was found that the technique of cast bracing was applicable to children with no adverse complications.

本文回顾了1977年以来皇家阿伯丁儿童医院对儿童股骨干骨折采用石膏支具治疗的情况。13名儿童接受了石膏支具治疗。所有儿童均实现了完全功能恢复。采用石膏支具治疗的平均时间为3周,平均出院时间为4周。通过这种方式治疗,这些儿童比采用传统方法治疗的儿童提前4周出院。研究发现,石膏支具技术适用于没有不良并发症的儿童。
