Synthesis of photoreactive tryptophan analogs: enzymatic conversion of azidoindoles to azidotryptophans.

Four photoreactive azidoindoles, 4, 5, 6, and 7 azidoindole, were synthesized and converted to the corresponding azidotryptophans by a crude enzyme preparation of tryptophan synthetase from Neurospora crassa.
