Solitary abscess of the spleen is a potentially lethal condition. It is difficult to diagnose but relatively easy to treat, resulting in cure of the majority of the patients. A case is described to illustrate the important factors in aetiology, presentation, diagnosis and treatment. All cases reported since 1960 are reviewed: the mortality of untreated patients is shown to be 100 per cent. If this condition is successfully diagnosed and treated, without rupture, no patient should die from it.
脾脏孤立性脓肿是一种潜在致命性疾病。其诊断困难但治疗相对容易，大多数患者可治愈。现描述一例病例以说明病因、临床表现、诊断及治疗中的重要因素。对1960年以来报道的所有病例进行回顾：结果显示未经治疗患者的死亡率为100%。如果该病能被成功诊断并治疗且未发生破裂，就不应有患者死于该病。
