[Diagnostic value of fiber endoscopy in surgical diseases of the upper portions of the gastrointestinal tract in newborn infants].

The author analyzes 82 fibroendoscopic examinations of the upper parts of the gastro-intestinal tract in 65 newborns with surgical diseases of the oesophagus, stomach and duodenum. The main group-44 patients-consisted of infants with a vomiting syndrome. Fibroendoscopy revealed a pathology of the cardial zone in 27 patients and pylorostenosis in 17 patients. The atropine test during performing endoscopy proposed by the author makes the diagnosis of the functional and organic pathology of the pyloric part of the stomach considerably simpler and quicker and allows avoiding the X-ray examination.
