A study of resistance to osmotic shock of peripheral blood lymphocytes from healthy donors and schizophrenics demonstrated two lymphocyte subpopulations: a low resistant subpopulation (about 20%) and high resistant subpopulation (about 80%). The lymphocytes from donors belonging to the former subpopulation popossess increased adhesiveness. 60% of schizophrenic patients lack the subpopulation of low resistant lymphocytes. Abnormal resistance to osmotic shock is characteristic of highly adhesive lymphocytes.
