The rationale leading to the use of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) in the treatment of radionecrosis is described. Between January 1975 and February 1977, 13 patients received HBO at Groote Schuur Hospital for radionecrosis, and the response is evaluated in terms of pain relief and wound healing. The implications of these results are discussed.
