In 86 patients, the acuity of the chemical senses has been proved before and after a psychotherapeutic treatment over seven weeks in hospital. There were no fundamental changes in smell, whereas the taste acuity has changed. After treatment, the latter, however, was less in those patients who had previously considered themselves less acute. Among the large number of the other results, the following fact is most remarkable: the successful treatment correlates with a diminished bitter acuity, or vice versa. Conclusions and prognoses cannot yet be drawn from this for a special case, but further investigations of this special relation seem to be effectual.
