[Concept of therapy in gunshot wounds].

174 patients with civilian gunshot wounds are presented. A staged approach with early debridement, followed by reparative and reconstructive procedures with delayed primary closure is advocated. Immediate laparotomy must be performed, if there is suspicion of perforation. Allowing for exceptions early thoracotomy cannot be regarded as an urgent indication.
