A simple technique, and an inexpensive, easily assembled freeze-drying apparatus is described. This system rapidly dries small tissue samples to give good reproducible results in preparation for the histochemical visualization of monoamines, by utilization of liquid nitrogen and dry ice sublimation under vacuum.
