Calf pain is a common complaint in the primary care setting. An understanding of the relationship of calf pain to the popliteal cyst and pseudothrombophlebitis syndrome and a systematic approach to evaluation may avoid a mistaken diagnosis of thrombophlebitis and unnecessary anticoagulation therapy.
