Abstract

Reaction time (RT) to two types of pairings of anticipatory and triggering stimuli was studied in healthy right-handed subjects. In one case the probability of pairing was 0.25; in the other -0.75. The comparison was made between mean values of RT to a series of signals presented predominantly to the left hemisphere (signals in the right visual field or in the right earphone), to the right hemisphere (signals in the left visual field or in the left earphone) or simultaneously to both hemispheres. It is found that RT dependence on unrecognized probabilities of pairing of anticipatory and triggering signals is observed only when signals are presented to the right hemisphere. It is assumed that this is due to the functional specialization of the cerebral hemispheres.
