[Acute volvulus of the sigmoid colon].

Seventeen cases of acute volvulus of the sigmoid colon are presented. Comparison with other series showed that the mortality rate for fixation with or without a shunt are more or less the same. Excellent results were obtained with the Paul Mikulicz method. An intention to use this method in all cases in the future, irrespective of the patient's local and general condition, is expressed.
