To evaluate the basic binaural function of children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
Case-control study. Measures of binaural function were compared for children with and without ADHD.
Forty-two children; 26 had ADHD and 16 were normal controls.
None.
For detection tasks, no differences were seen between children with ADHD and controls. For speech recognition tasks, the younger children with ADHD did not perform as well as the controls.
Younger children with ADHD might have a reduced processing efficiency for signal recognition in certain types of noise, but not for signal detection.
