Abstract
Bacterial endocarditis is a preventable disease in most patients. It is a potentially fatal disease if left untreated. This article addresses issues related to bacterial endocarditis prophylaxis as related to lower gastrointestinal endoscopy and the recommendations of the American Heart Association.
