The objective of this study was to evaluate, via a mail questionnaire, the extent to which topics in epidemiology are included in the graduate epidemiology curricula in departments of epidemiology within the 24 US schools of public health. Responses from 101 faculty (79% of faculty queried) indicated that 86% believed that education concerning ethical issues in epidemiologic research should be included in the curriculum. Topics included most frequently are ethical issues concerning protection of human subjects, clinical trials, screening programs, and use/abuse of data. The most common mode of presenting these topics is through one-on-one mentoring or through seminars.
