Gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding is a common reason for a pediatric surgical consult. Nurses who care for children can gather important data in their patient assessments. An understanding of the cause, diagnosis, and management of select disease entities that result in GI bleeding will aid the nurse in the assessment and care of pediatric patients.
