[Observations in relation to the epidemic outbreak of cutaneous leishmaniasis in the Ribeira Valley (São Paulo), 1978].

The author relates peculiarities of epidemical irruption of the Tegument Leishmaniasis, occurred in the Ribeira Valley, São Paulo State, Brazil, in 1978. The work is divided into three parts: I--Geographical and ecological aspects of the place where the irruption occurred; II--A concise review of the clinic-epidemiological characteristics of the tegumental leishmaniasis; III--Informations on epidemic level about the epidemical irruption and the setting of the subject in order to debate the probable causes of the event.
