We used a modified technique to construct the trabeculectomy flap.
The technique involved the creation of a scleral tunnel as is used in phacoemulsification surgery for cataract.
We have used this technique in our most recent 90 cases. We believe it is an easier technique to perform than conventional flap dissection, and that it yields improved flap construction.
The scleral tunnel flap technique offers a number of advantages over standard flap construction in trabeculectomy surgery.
