The Orem Self-Care Deficit Theory offers a framework for hospice nursing care. In this article, the six core concepts of Orem's theory, self-care, self-care agency, and nursing system, are discussed as they relate to hospice care. These concepts of Orem's nursing theory are valuable to nurses in guiding palliative care. A case study is presented to illustrate clinical application of these concepts in hospice nursing practice.
