The widespread HIV infection in some developed and developing countries is posing serious problems for the control of TB. An edpidemetric model was built to simulate the dual epidemics of HIV infection and TB in the developing world's population. It was shown that HIV infection may greatly increase the prevalence of TB and the risk of TB infection. The impact of epidemics of HIV infection and the effectiveness of TB control measures were quantified with the cumulative prevalence of TB and the extent of its reduction. The relevance of epidemetric models in the planning of policies for the control of TB is discussed.
