Out of 49 infected total hip replacements which were treated at the Orthopedic Hospital of the University of Heidelberg, 39 were taken out and not replaced by a new one. The advantage of such doing was an almost total cure of the infection and a relief of pain. The functional result is the same found in head-neck-resections. The patient's opinion about this method is surprisingly good. It is worth to be considered as an alternative to a replacement of a new prosthesis.
