In a study designed to ascertain whether correlation exists between the occurrence of primary nocturnal enuresis and the level of self-esteem in children, self-esteem ratings for 15 affected 7-9-year-olds recruited at a Gothenburg hospital (Ostra sjukhuset), were compared with those for two control groups--one of healthy children, the other of children with various chronic medical conditions. Self-esteem scores were significantly lower in the enuresis than in the healthy group. The chronic illness group also had lower scores than the healthy group, though this difference was not statistically significant.
