[Endorectal ultrasound of the prostate].

The authors present their results in a group of 112 patients studied by transrectal ultrasound and prostate biopsies. The study was performed in Panama at the Urologic and Ultrasound Clinic of the Consultorios Médicos Paitilla in a period of 9 months. Histologic confirmation was obtained for all patients. 29 prostate cancers were diagnosed, 9 foci of dysplasia, 6 foci of inflammation and 68 benign prostatic hyperplasia. No serious complications were reported in this study. Some technical aspects of the procedure are presented.
