Electrophysiological recordings were made from maxillary incisors to determine whether axons which branch to supply the pulps of two teeth were more common if a supplemental tooth was present. A total of 12 branched pulpal axons was found in nine animals with six maxillary incisors each and 25 branched pulpal axons were found in six animals with seven maxillary incisors each. Because of the variability between animals, this difference was not significant. However, branched pulpal fibres which crossed the midline were found only in animals with supplemental teeth.
